John Bradford's chainsaw demo - June 2009

On Saturday 20 June 2009, John Bradford gave us a demonstration of how to use a chainsaw to convert logs to pieces we could use on a lathe. The demonstration lasted a few hours and Pete Gradon turned one of the blanks into a rough turned bowl before the end of the demo.

John cuts off the end of a log of Ash to get the crotch for turning bowls.

John cuts the log in half to expose the crotch grain inside the log for turning bowls or dishes.

John Bradford uses a smaller chainsaw to convert one half of the crotch cut log into a bowl blank. The circle was drawn on in permanent marker.
