January club night 2024 Gallery

Our demonstrator for tonight was Peter Johnson our regular and very capable woodturner who has won many club competitions both monthly and annual.

Peters demonstration tonight was all about natural edge items.

Peter mounted his bowl blank between centres and proceeded to turn the outside of the bowl to include a dovetail to fit his chuck.

The bowl was turned around and remounted on the chuck ready to remove the inside.

Peter was keen to get members to participate in his demonstration and the first volunteer was Ray Shaw.

next up to have a turn was Richard Renshaw.

Next up to the lathe was John Lacey, well done to all three members for having a go ( closely watched by Peter )

Peter finished this project by adding super glue to the areas of loose bark.

This is the super glue that he used this can be purchased from many supplies including Amazon.

Peter went on to show members how to turn a natural edged winged bowl and mounted the log between centres.

Peter turned the outside first and again turned the dovetail ready to remount the bowl.

He then proceeded to turn the inside aiming for a consistent thickness to the edge.

Our Treasurer was in attendance to lighten members pockets and renew subscriptions.

Tonight we discovered the winners of the competitor/ Turner of the year awards and several members achieved the accolade, Stephen Long presented the awards and first was up John Lacey.
