Excellent turn out tonight to watch Stephen Long demonstrating how he turns scoops and spoons .

Stephen mounted his blank and tuned it to the round and proceeded to drill out the centre.

The bottom was cleaned up with a scraper.

The scoop was then turned around and mounted on a home made friction plate supported with the tail stock and the handle turned to a finish.

The scoop was removed from the lathe and mounted in a block to support it whilst Stephen cut out the scoop shape with a fret saw.

Stephen brought along his belt sander and finished off the scoop to a smooth finish.

He demonstrated his method of making smaller measuring type spoons, he paper joins to pieces of wood together clamps them together and leaves them to set.

When the blank is dry Stephen proceeds to turn two spoons all in one go !!

When the spoons were parted Stephen mounted one on his home made jig to secure it, he fixed a half round drill bit in a jacobs chuck in the tail stock and drilled out the dished part of the spoon.
